So last weekend, I had my first piano recital. I can't believe how well everyone did! Seriously, my excitement for them rivaled their parents. They were all dressed so nice and their hair was done especially nice. I could tell most of them were just a little nervous. But they all did wonderful!
I had decided to play several months ago. I feel like if I'm going to
make them do it I have to, too. So I picked a challenging piece and
started practicing it. I practiced and practiced, but apparently not
enough. About a week before I realized it wasn't going to be ready. I
started freaking out trying to decide what to do. Should I still play,
should I not, should I just do it and flub everything? Jake thought I
should play this song as an ice breaker. I
practiced it, but didn't feel 100% comfortable with it. Who knows what
the mood is going to be when we get there. So at the last minute I
chickened out and fell to a song from several years ago in my music
collection. I was so undecided I didn't even put my name on the program. But it's good for me to play, right? I did fine. Here's the program:
Jake did so good, no? I think it's purdy.
I only had one little guy, who's only been with me for about a month, get too scared to play. The rest of them jumped right up to play. I forgot to have them bow. Next time.
I was only planning on doing a recital once a year, but most of the parents want to do it twice a year to give the kids lots of practice playing in front of people. I don't know if my nerves can handle twice a year. We'll see. There's also a festival being organized for the spring, so that will be good!
But the worst thing about it was that I forgot my camera. So I don't have any pictures. Sad.
