Spring Blooms

Here is my little inside garden! Almost every little sprout spot has sprouted! I have marigolds, pansies and petunias sprouting! My green peppers finally sprouted out this week, but they sure took off and are one of the tallest! Can you tell which way the sun shines in? I think its funny they're all a little slanted. I turned it around so hopefully it'll straighten them out a little bit.

However, my pride and joy is my cucumber plant! It sprouted about day two and hasn't stopped growing. At about ten days it was too tall for the planter, so I transplanted it into a cup and covered it with a milk jug. It is almost too tall for that now! I am loving the feeling of creating life from seed! I know, I didn't really do that much, but it still feels good, and I am very excited to plant them in a few weeks! Here is Porkchop enjoying my cucumber. I have to close the door to "his" room because he is constantly wanting to eat the plants. In fact, just moments after this photo was taken, I'm sorry to say, the little leaf took a little beating. But I think that it will survive. What a cat.

St. George, Utah

A couple of weeks ago, we went to St. George, Utah. I learned its called St. George because George A Smith lived there and was really good at growing potatoes, so they called him "Potato St. George." He would give his family all the meat of the potato and keep the skins for himself because he thought he was giving them all the nutrients. Turns out they all died from scurvy and he lived to tell the tale. Sad, huh?

Anyway, here are Jake and I on our first day in St. George. Do we look cold? We should it was 34ish degrees when this picture was taken. The wind was blowing and we had just driven through a giant snow storm! Isn't this southern Utah? This picture was taken in Elim Valley, Jake's company's housing development. There's no houses there. hmmm.
This is the picture of the inside of our car. We didn't stay in the same hotel the entire time we were there, so we didn't have anywhere to just be for most of the time we were there. One day I drove north to Hurricane and sat a park and bird watched. This is me discovering that you don't have to have the car on, or the key in, to listen to the radio! Happy Day!

This is a picture of a nice lake with lots of little birdies floating around on it. I wanted to go check it out. I drove around it and around it and couldn't find how to get down to the water. I knew you could because I could see campers on the shore! I finally found the toll booth place. It was $10 to get to the water. I didn't go see those birds. Did I mention I'm cheap?

One day I went on the FREE self guided, walking tour of St. George. I didn't realize how historic the are was. Anywho, here is a picture of Brigham Young's summer home. Very tiny. and pink. Who knew! Sorry about the ultra up close picture. But that's where I was standing before being bombarded by the missionaries for the tour!

This is the St. George Temple. The first completed temple in the west. It was VERY pretty! The visitors' center was really cool too. They had a 3D model of Jerusalem and different places lit up as they talked about Christ's life. I thought it was pretty cool. We didn't get a chance to go through the temple. Jake worked late pretty much the entire time we were there. I guess that's why we were there. But we (me, the wife) probably won't have a chance (don't want to) go back. That's okay with me! It was cold and rainy all week, and it wasn't worth the nine hour drive!

The day we left was nice though. See ya later (never) southern Utah!

Planting Season!

Every year I always want to put lots of flowers around our house. I want to make lots of prettiness in our yard! But I'm cheap. I can't bring myself to spend $3 on four flowers. So this year I decided to grow my own! We went and bought one of those kits that you can grow your own starts to be planted in the spring. Well, I planted them Saturday afternoon. Here they are. Aren't they so beautiful! They were the kind that are wrapped in some biodegradable material and you just stick them in water till they expand, then shove a few seeds in them! When it comes time to plant, just stick them in the ground! Even I can do that!

So on Monday evening, I was checking them (for the 5000th time that day because I was so excited about them) and this is what I saw! After only three days, I have a sprout. This morning (Tuesday) it had two little leaves on it! I don't know if it was cheaper. But for all this it was about $15. And we got 50 starts out of it, so yeah I guess thats cheaper. I'll keep you all posted because I know you're all dieing to see them!

Birthday Cake!

Every year in Young Women, we throw our Bishopric a birthday party, because several of them have birthday's in March, we do it in March. In the past some of our themes were DINOSAURS because they're so old! We also did SUPER HEROES because they're our super heroes with everything they have to do and put up with from us. This year our them is CARS. Because boys/guys/men like cars. Not necesarily the movie, but it works too. I'm usually in charge of the cake, so here is the cake that I made for this years celebration!

It turned out a little disproportioned because I accidently did it backwards and didn't have the guides from the pan to follow. It looks alright though, right? Anyway, I put pudding in the middle instead of frosting per a request. But I put too much in and it kept leaking out. I hope it holds up till tonight! Happy Birthday Bishopbric!!
