New Series

Since I don't have anything exciting to post, I thought I would start a new series of posts. A friend I follow has been doing this for some time correlating with her book writing blog. I'm just doing it because I feel like my past blogs have been snoozers, and I like to blog.

Each post will chronicle a year or portion of my life.
So, the first post will be about my birth and my name.

My mom always told me how horrible it was the last little while that she was pregnant with me. It was late July, early August in Denver. The hottest time of the year! Our family was preparing to move to Idaho Falls and she was anxious to birth before they moved.

I'm not sure if people still do this, but she said she would drink Castor oil in massive amounts trying to induce me to come. I was just reading about Castor oil on Wikipedia, and I don't know how she did that, because it doesn't sound that nice, pleasant, or even safe! It's a wonder I wasn't a special baby! No comments please.

I was born on August 5, 1982, early in the morning. Second of two kids. Older brother Chris (Christopher). I was born with LOTS of long black hair. My mom told me once she thought she had had an Indian baby. I'm not sure how politically correct that is. Anyway, my family packed up and moved to Idaho Falls when I was only a week old. My mom always tells about how the cat, with the litter box on the floor, a three year old, and a brand new baby made for a very long drive. But they made it. We lived across the street from Rose Hill Cemetery in Idaho Falls for a year or so before moving to Shelley. As a side note, my good friend Anna lived in the same apartment for several years with her kids. It was kind of cool to go visit her and know I lived there when I was just little!

I was a crier. I know you are all surprised because you've all met me and know how I never cry*. I would cry all day long, all night long. My poor mother. One day a nosey/concerned neighbor called Child Protective Services because they thought something horrible was going one. I cried the entire time the lady was there, and she left without any further investigation.

My full name was Jennifer Lenda. I think from day one I've strongly dislike the name Jennifer. At least for me. Others it's fine, but I don't feel like it fits. I don't think Jenny does either, but that's a different story. My mom always told me that my brother and I's names were always just a given and they didn't have to think too hard about it. When I had some say in it I wanted people to call me Jenny. My dad tried to make it a little more spicy by spelling it Jenney. On some of my Kindergarten papers that's how it's spelled. I think once I could write and spell, I took care of that. When I would meet new people and I would tell them my name, they would say, "You have two first names!" No I didn't. That drove me nuts. And nothing against anyone in my family, but I was elated to change it when I got married. I even contemplated officially changing from Jennifer to Jenny. I SO wish I had!! I just hate it on the church records, bank accounts, social security stuff, doctors forms, etc. And I hate when they call me from waiting rooms as Jennifer. Even when I put my preferred name. A lifelong battle.

As we are only renting our house, our photo albums are out in the garage. I'll try and wrangle up some pictures for upcoming posts.

*Strong sarcasm intended here. I cry at everything.

Ginger Chews

Okay, there is nothing new to report. We are chugging along, doing the regular day to day things. It's been nice and quiet, and I am loving it! But I found something else that I love and want to share. I'm sorry to plug another product, but I just think they're wonderful.

I was in our whole foods store looking for something else and found these:
They are ginger candy!

They are sweet with what I think is a powdered sugar coating. They really taste so good! They come in several flavors and are fairly inexpensive. Check out their website here.

I get so carsick sometimes and I am glad to have found these, but really I could probably just eat them. The reviews also said it's good for morning sickness for all you pregnant ladies out there.

Yummy!

Those are some BIG skeeters!!

We have discovered the one drawback of living practically in the reservoir. It is the giant, sheer number of mosquitoes! The mornings are manageable. But the evenings are almost unbearable! Since we've gotten here, I've gotten more bites than I think I have in the rest of my entire life! And poor Jake!

I was going to post a picture of a bite, but I found them too disgusting to share. So here is an up close view of a little buggar:

Cute? I think not!
We've gotten a bug light that helps in the evenings.
I can't believe how many it gets, and how many we still have! Gross.

We've gotten great use out our brand new tube of anti-itchy stuff.

But I want to share what we have found that has helped us a lot!

Well, there is the traditional bug repellent. This stuff works good, but it just stinks so bad.

This kind smells better. Not good, but better for sure.

But what I want to share with you, are these:

OFF Clip-Ons

I found a great coupon on the OFF Website. We got these for camping last weekend, but didn't use them because everyone was doped up, so we all just sat really close. Anyway, last night, we were sitting on the back porch waiting for the owls to come back and we were being just attacked. Jake went in and got one of these and sat it between us. Almost instantly we had relief. There wasn't a mosquito within five feet of us. It makes a slight whirring noise, but that's all. We could still hear each other talking just fine. And there was no nasty smells! It worked great. So much better than the candles and sprays. I don't know how it works when you're moving, but for just sitting it was great! I highly recommend it!

Sullenger Family

I have never met this family, and only just "met" them through their blog. But they recently lost their daughter in a drowning accident. I have been crying over them for the last hour. I can't even imagine the pain, sadness, sorrow, even anger they must be feeling. Please keep them in your prayers that they might find comfort and peace.

Here is another blog if you want to help them.

Funny Pictures

Among my travels on the internet, I've found some funny pictures. Some off of other people's blogs, others Jake tells me about. Some of them are pretty silly, so I thought I would share. Some of them speak for themselves!

What is up with this??? Would any of you actually wear it?

For the man who has it all...

I laughed really hard at this one. I don't know why, I just thought it was really funny.

Or the dinosaurs will EAT you!

I Have a Problem

What is my problem you ask?

Is it that I need a new pair of shoes? Always, but maybe later.
Is it that my grass is dying? No, it is a lush green!
So what is my problem? I am addicted to this:

The snow cone.

A perennial favorite of mine. Each summer I indulge in this inexpensive cup of ice and sweet, delicious flavor. But this year seems different. Living in a small town, with not a lot to do or places to eat, it has been my go to comfort for the summer. Already today, we have indulged. The previous picture was of my:

That's right, my Gone With the Wind. A delightful mixture of Strawberry, Cherry, and Blackberry. So delicious. Here's is Jake's Cherry. Also, very delicious.

Our Snow Shack isn't fancy, ritzy, or somewhere any of your bosses would probably feel comfortable going. In fact, I think you could hook it up to the back of your truck and take it home with you! I didn't take a picture of ours, but here are some pictures of what your Snow Shack may look like.

But possibly one of my favorite things, is the spoon straw. I'm not sure if that's the technical name for it. But doesn't it make it all taste SO much better?!

One of my favorite tasty treats was the Peach Ring. A delightful combination of Strawberry, Peach, and Banana.
It tasted EXACTLY like a peach ring!!

Cotton Candy: Best when both Pink and Blue Cotton Candy flavors are combined.

Just some more pretty pictures of snow cones. Because they're so pretty.
Your food should be pretty.

What is the next flavor I'm going to try?

SPIDERMAN: Blue AND Red Raspberry swirled in a heavenly, Styrofoam cup.

I think I have a problem. I'm Jonesing right now.

P.S. Here is a silly picture of a cat enjoying his rainbow. I thought it was funny.
